FoodCultura Suitcase was part of the El Viaje del Sabor installation of the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015. The installation proposed a review of the cultural journey of the chosen foods (potato, cod, pepper, cocoa, among others), establishing a dialogue between the theme of the Expo “Nourishing the Planet / Energy for Life” and the architecture and exhibition contents of the Spanish Pavilion.
The foods of the FoodCultura Suitcase were selected for their cultural and historical load, their symbolism, their displacements and their presence in both culinary and social processes.
To visualize the “trip”, the iconography of the suitcase and its symbolic references were used: memory, privacy, plane suitcase, diaspora, photos, memories … For its digital contents, it was worked with the imaginary, the popular iconography and an endless number of data, documents and literary references of the Food Culture Archive: flying saucers, stomach, luggage tags, scans, maps, works of art, proverbs …
